Motörhead – Iron Fist (1982)

Album Overview

Iron Fist is the fifth studio album by British heavy metal band Motörhead, released on 17 April 1982 through Bronze Records. The album followed the massive success of Ace of Spades (1980) and continued the band’s reputation for fast, aggressive rock and roll.

Blending heavy metal, hard rock, and punk energy, Iron Fist delivered Motörhead’s signature speed and raw attitude. The album reached No. 6 on the UK Albums Chart, proving the band’s popularity during the early 1980s.

Background and Recording

After the global success of Ace of Spades, Motörhead faced intense pressure to follow up with another strong release. Recording sessions for Iron Fist took place in 1982 at Morgan Studios in London.

The album featured the classic lineup:

  • Lemmy Kilmister – bass, vocals

  • “Fast” Eddie Clarke – guitar

  • Phil “Philthy Animal” Taylor – drums

The band produced the album themselves, aiming to capture a raw and aggressive sound similar to their live performances.

Not long after the album’s release, guitarist Fast Eddie Clarke left the band, marking the end of Motörhead’s classic early lineup.
