Ramones – Mondo Bizarro (1992)

Released on June 1, 1992, Mondo Bizarro is the thirteenth studio album by American punk rock band Ramones. It was the first studio album to feature C.J. Ramone on bass, who replaced founding member Dee Dee Ramone after his departure in 1989.

The album reflects the band’s determination to stay relevant in the 1990s punk and alternative scene while keeping the classic Ramones sound alive.

Background and Recording

Following Dee Dee’s exit, C.J. Ramone (born Christopher Joseph Ward) joined the band, bringing new energy and fresh songwriting contributions.

The album was recorded at One on One Recording Studios in Los Angeles, with production by Ed Stasium, who had previously worked on several classic Ramones records.

At this point, the band was still touring heavily but had the experience to record efficiently, resulting in a tight, fast, and energetic album that reminded fans why the Ramones were legendary.

Musical Style

Mondo Bizarro combines:

  • Classic Ramones punk rock energy

  • Melodic hooks

  • Slightly modern production typical of early 90s rock

  • Short, punchy tracks with occasional experimentation

C.J. Ramone contributed several songs, introducing a slightly different vocal tone and lyrical perspective.
