Rainier Fog is the 6th studio album by American rock band Alice in Chains, released on August 24, 2018, through BMG—the band’s first album with this label. The title was inspired by Mount Rainier, symbolizing a tribute to the Seattle music scene. It is the band’s third album featuring William DuVall sharing lead vocals with Jerry Cantrell, and their first album recorded in Seattle in 22 years, partially at Studio X, where they recorded their 1995 self-titled album.
Produced by Nick Raskulinecz, marking their third full album collaboration, Rainier Fog was supported by singles like “The One You Know,” “So Far Under,” “Never Fade,” and the title track. Additionally, a 10-part sci-fi web series called Black Antenna was released in 2019 as a companion to the album.
The album debuted at No. 12 on the Billboard 200 and topped Billboard’s Top Rock, Alternative, and Hard Rock Albums charts. It reached No. 9 in the UK charts, Alice in Chains’ first top 10 there. Rainier Fog was nominated for a 2019 Grammy Award for Best Rock Album and won the 2018 Metal Storm Award for Best Alternative Metal Album.
