Get Your Wings is the 2nd studio album by American rock band Aerosmith, released on March 15, 1974. Marking the first collaboration with producer Jack Douglas, who would go on to produce the band’s next three albums, Get Your Wings helped solidify Aerosmith’s developing sound despite none of its singles charting. The album was certified triple platinum by the RIAA and released in both stereo and quadraphonic formats.
After the band’s self-titled debut received little attention, Aerosmith focused on extensive touring to build their fanbase before recording Get Your Wings at New York’s Record Plant. The album combined pre-written songs like the popular concert staple “Train Kept A-Rollin’” with new tracks created during the sessions, including “S.O.S. (Too Bad)” and “Lord of the Thighs.” The latter was inspired by the gritty streets near their recording location, reflecting the band’s raw, urban influences. Steven Tyler’s lyrics and the band’s dynamic performances capture the hard-rock energy that helped define Aerosmith’s early career and set the stage for future breakthroughs.
