Roxette: Origins, Members & Band History

Roxette was formed in Halmstad, Sweden, in 1986 by songwriter, guitarist, and vocalist Per Gessle and singer Marie Fredriksson. Initially launched as a side project, the duo quickly gained popularity in Sweden before achieving massive international success with Look Sharp!

Marie’s powerful, emotional voice combined perfectly with Per’s melodic songwriting, creating a sound that resonated worldwide. Throughout the late 1980s and 1990s, Roxette dominated charts with a series of global hits, selling millions of albums and performing sold-out tours across continents.

Following Marie Fredriksson’s health struggles and her passing in 2019, Roxette officially came to an end. Their legacy, however, remains timeless, securing their place among the most influential pop-rock duos in music history.
